Taughannock Falls State Park features a 200 plus ft waterfall and 400 ft gorge with multiple walking trails. The highlight of the park is the gorge trail that leads right up close to the waterfall itself. This is one of the only gorge trails in New York that is open year round, even in the winter. This winter when I visited I parked in the upper parking lot to see the falls from above. I then hiked the Taughannock North Rim trail. This trail is a 2.9 mile loop trail that leads down to the gorge trail right up to the falls. Unfortunately the end point of this trail was closed for the winter season, so I would not recommend this trail during winter. Instead I ended up driving down to the lower parking area to see the falls up close.
Ithaca Falls
Ithaca Falls is 20 minutes from Taughannock Falls and is close to downtown Ithaca. After a visit to the falls explore downtown Ithaca for a shop and a bite to eat.
