Letchworth State Park is a 40 minute drive from RIT and a perfect weekend day trip. The park is one of New York State's most popular parks for a reason. In the summer and fall months leaf peepers and outdoor enthusiasts frequent the park for its waterfalls, large canyon, and accessibility. What I love about the park is that you can choose to drive or hike to all of the view points. Upper, Middle, and Lower falls are all connected by one long hiking trail. You can also choose to drive and pull into each parking area to enjoy the views without all the walking. There are plenty of picnic areas and historic interest points to keep you interested for a whole day. There's even a snack bar too .The park does have a $10 cash entrance fee in season, but during winter you can just drive right in. Throughout the year there are plenty of other attractions apart from hiking and sightseeing. These include swimming, whitewater rafting, hot air ballooning ,skiing, snowmobiling, and snowshoeing. There are also designated camping areas if you want to make a whole weekend out of your visit. I've been to Letchworth in every season now and I by far would most recommend the fall because of the beautiful colors when the leaves change. The park is a great place for a weekend outing with friends and a picnic.
