A perfect evening winter activity is ice skating at Dr. Martin Luther King JR. Memorial Park in downtown Rochester. The park is less than twenty minutes from campus and is lit up at night, providing a cozy, magical atmosphere for gliding, or falling depending on the person, across the ice. The rink is only open for the winter season, so be sure to check their website for updated information. An open skate is $3 for college students with an ID. If you don’t have your own skates an additional $3 is charged for a skate rental. Inside the heated skate shop there are cubbies to keep your belongings in while on the ice. Outside the shop there are tables and chairs for resting and a speaker playing music. For the beginner skaters ice sliders are provided for you to push and stay balanced while learning how to stay upright on the rink. I suggest going on a weeknight when there are less people and you might even have the rink to yourself.
